Nutritional Labeling

Testing Services

Nutrition Facts Panel Development

Nutritional labels are required on all packaged conventional foods and beverages. Packages also contain other required statements, such as declarations for allergens, and voluntary statements, such as health claims. Through a variety of qualitative and quantitative methods, FSNS provides nutritional analysis and allergen testing services to help you feel confident that the labels on your packaged foods and beverages are accurate and reliable.

Nutrient Content

Food labels require specific formatting and must include certain nutrient content information. FDA, Health Canada, and other regulatory requirements differ, so it is important to work with a laboratory that understands food labeling requirements and can provide the qualitative and quantitative results you need.

Allergen Labeling

Allergens, even in trace amounts, must be identified in food products, and major allergens must be disclosed on food product labels. FSNS uses sensitive test kits to identify the presence of allergens so that you can label your products accurately.

Nutrient Content, Health, and Other Claims

To use special claims on food labels, FDA requires manufacturers to have quantitative data that demonstrates compliance. We have the expertise to confirm whether use of these claims are appropriate for your product label.

Nutrition Labeling for Restaurants and Retail Establishments

FSNS works with restaurants and retailers to ensure menu labeling is accurate and meets all FDA requirements.

Gluten-Free and Other Process Claims

Labels may include process claims such as “gluten-free” or “fortified with”, but these claims must have data to back them up. FSNS food testing capabilities include verification of nutrient inclusion or exclusion so that your claims are backed by science.
